Born in 1959 John Reeves enjoyed a productive academic school life. College was a natural next step. His family at that time had financial constraints which, meant University was not an option. He needed to go to work. In 1979 he left college with a Diploma in Building Construction and immediately commenced a multi-faceted career in the Glass and Glazing Industry, more modernly described as the Glass and Aluminium Industry. He started in Glass Sales however, and unusually, elected to join the factory floor. Here he became a highly skilled glass cutter in the days before automation and was frequently engaged in site visits to use his skills in removing broken shop window glass and 'cutting in' Laminated and float glass at site. Glazing and Aluminium fitting was a natural progression and became another feather in his cap. Rising quickly through the ranks his Labour, Contract Coordination and Negotiation skills developed. This led him first into middle and then senior management. During the mid 80's he attended night school and obtained the Btec. Certificate in Management Studies. Working in these early years in the U.K. he worked for Heyward Williams (now Pilkington) Clarke Eaton and Mackenzie Glass (then Solaglass and now Saint Gobain). In the early 90s he worked for Zamil Glass in Saudi Arabia and moved mid 90s to the UAE where he worked for Gulf Glass Industries. He spent one year in Egypt starting up the new SmartGlass factory in Al Fayoum, eventually returning to the UAE to join Glasshouse and finally Emirates Glass. As a keen proponent of good Glazing practice he was also elected as Chairman of the Glass and Glazing Federation (U.K.) MENA region for a number of years. Now he heads up the Consultancy Division of Vitrage Glass and Metal L.L.C. In his career he has been involved as the point-man in New factory start ups, new product lines, research and development, Sales and Marketing and, one of his key skills, Dispute resolutions around the world. See below list of countries. He is now happily married and spends his spare time on his Sailing Yacht, the Susan Margaret, named after his wife. John says “Being aboard a sailing yacht and travelling across oceans has incredibly improved my management skills. When a business plan fails you can ultimately just 'walk away'. Sailing an ocean however, means that you have to manage everything in fine detail. You have to have back up plans, be even-headed enough to resolve all issues and stay in control in the worst of storms. Failure at sea cannot invoke the 'walk away' option. The potential of shipwreck and drowning is a much stronger incentive to get things right. This can-do, finding and then implementing a solution work ethic, has been strengthened through my sailing experiences and is irrevocably embedded in my approach to business”
